Winter Size Guide
US letter sizes use body measurements in inches, with centimeter references. Choose by your own measurements rather than usual brand labels, because winter layers need extra room.
How to Measure Yourself
Use a soft measuring tape and keep it level. Do not pull it tight; leave enough room for one finger under the tape. These are body measurements, not finished garment measurements.
Chest
Measure under your arms around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
Waist
Measure around your natural waistline, usually about one inch above the navel, where pants naturally sit.
Hips
Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest part of your seat and hips.
Shoulder & sleeve
Across the back, measure from shoulder seam to shoulder seam; for sleeve length, measure from shoulder seam to wrist.
Inseam
On well-fitting pants, measure the inside leg from the crotch seam to the ankle hem.
Layer allowance
Wear the thermal, sweater, or fleece you expect underneath before measuring for a coat.
Tops, Coats & Knitwear
Approximate unisex US body measurements. Outerwear should have more ease than a fitted knit; if you plan to wear thick sweaters, choose the roomier size.

Fit Notes for Winter Layers
Outerwear
Leave about 2–4 inches of ease over the chest when wearing a knit or fleece underneath. Sleeves should reach the wrist without pulling when you raise your arms.
Knitwear & mid-layers
Mid-layers should sit close enough to trap warmth without tight sleeves or a constricted chest. A sweater should not pull across the shoulders.
Bottoms
Keep regular waist and hip room. Size up if you wear thermal underwear, prefer a loose leg, or plan to bend and move outdoors.
- Between sizes with broad shoulders, thick layers, or a fuller chest: size up.
- Between sizes for a fitted knit or athletic build: choose the closer measurement.
- If one measurement falls in a larger size, prioritize the chest for outerwear and waist for bottoms.
Size FAQ
What if I am between two sizes?+
For coats and insulated outerwear, size up when you plan to layer. For fitted knitwear, choose the closer chest measurement. If you are between waist and hip sizes, use the hip measurement for bottoms.
Do coat measurements include room for sweaters?+
The chart gives body measurements, not finished garment measurements. Leave 2–4 inches of chest ease beyond your body chest for a coat worn over a mid-layer.
Are these body measurements or garment measurements?+
These are body measurement ranges used to match your size. Actual finished garment dimensions vary by style, fabric, and insulation.
What if the size does not fit?+
